A murder investigation is underway in Worcestershire after a woman was discovered dead at a property in Evesham, leading to a swift arrest.
Police Discover Woman's Body
Emergency services were called to an address on Brick Kiln Street in Evesham at approximately 8.40pm on Wednesday, 14 January. Upon arrival, they sadly found the body of a 69-year-old woman.
West Mercia Police immediately launched a murder investigation following the discovery. Officers have confirmed that a 47-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody for questioning as enquiries continue.
Reassurance for the Local Community
Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Lougher of the Force's Major Investigation Unit addressed public concerns following the incident. He acknowledged the shock such news would cause within the local community but sought to offer reassurance.
"This was an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public," stated DCI Lougher. He emphasised that the investigation is in its early stages and that establishing the full circumstances surrounding the woman's death is the current priority.
Increased Police Presence Expected
While stressing the incident is believed to be contained, police have warned residents to expect a heightened visibility of officers in the Brick Kiln Street area over the coming days. This increased presence is to allow detectives to carry out thorough enquiries and forensic work at the scene.
The police have not released the identities of either the woman who died or the man arrested, pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.
