Police are trawling through CCTV footage following an illegal gathering of vehicles in Tipton. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, June 7, near the Asda supermarket on Brickhouse Lane South in Great Bridge.
Police Response
West Midlands Police confirmed they are aware of the gathering and noted that a High Court injunction specifically prohibits such events. A force spokesperson stated: "We are aware of an illegal gathering of vehicles on a car park in Brickhouse Lane South, Tipton, last night."
The Operation Hercules team, which targets illegal street racing and car cruising across the West Midlands, is conducting multiple enquiries, including CCTV trawls. The spokesperson added: "A High Court injunction prevents gatherings such as these, and anyone in breach of it faces fines and imprisonment."
High Court Injunction Details
Earlier this year, the High Court granted an injunction banning "street racing," also known as "car cruising," in Sandwell, Walsall, and Wolverhampton. The injunction applies to any driver, rider, or passenger in a motor vehicle who participates, between 3pm and 7am, in a gathering of two or more people within these council areas where some attendees engage in motor racing, stunts, or other dangerous or obstructive driving.
The order also covers organizers and spectators, prohibiting the promotion, organization, or publicity of such gatherings, as well as attending as a spectator with the intention or expectation that street racing will occur.
Consequences of Breach
Police have the power to arrest anyone who breaches the injunction. A breach is considered contempt of court, and if proven, the court can impose imprisonment, a fine, or an order to seize the person's assets.
West Midlands Police continue to urge the public to report any illegal car meets or street racing activities to help keep roads safe.
