Shrewsbury Pitch Invader Banned from UK Football Matches

Daniel Perkins, a 30-year-old man from Shrewsbury, has been banned from attending any UK football matches for three years after he invaded the pitch at New Meadow and was found in possession of Class A drugs. The incident occurred during a match at Shrewsbury Town FC's ground in January 2025.

Court Proceedings and Banning Order

Perkins, of Bishop Street, Shrewsbury, pleaded guilty to possession of Class A drugs and entering the pitch. At Telford Magistrates' Court on Thursday, June 18, he was handed a three-year Football Banning Order (FBO).

Under the terms of the FBO, Perkins is prohibited from attending any regulated football match in the UK. He is also banned from traveling abroad when the England national team plays away fixtures. Additionally, he is barred from entering Shrewsbury town centre and areas near the stadium before and after all home games.

Police Statement on Safety

Pc Chris Rayment, Staffordshire Police's dedicated football officer for Shrewsbury Town, emphasized the importance of the ban. "As we work closely with the club in the planning for the new season, this is a timely reminder that unacceptable behaviour and criminality will not be tolerated at football matches," he said.

"Football is enjoyed by many people from all ages and backgrounds, including young children. Being in possession of or using illegal substances or prohibited items can have a negative effect on people’s behaviour, impacting the safety and enjoyment of others. The safety of the match officials and the players on the pitch is also a priority. Pitch incursions can quickly escalate and have the potential to raise tensions between fans. Therefore, we welcome the magistrate’s decision to give Perkins an FBO."

Impact and Enforcement

The three-year ban applies to all UK football matches, including those in the Premier League, English Football League, and international games. Perkins must also surrender his passport when England plays abroad. The order aims to deter future misconduct and ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators.
