Joan Hardy, a 72-year-old woman, was found dead with stab wounds at a property in The Crest, Linton, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, on Sunday, June 21. Police were called just after 2:30pm following reports of a woman with stab wounds, but she could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Investigation Underway
Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed the victim's identity and stated that her family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers. The force said: "The 72-year-old’s family have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
Officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries and reviewing CCTV footage as part of the investigation. They are particularly keen to hear from residents or neighbours who saw anyone coming or going from the property on Saturday, June 20, or Sunday, June 21. Police also appeal for anyone with CCTV, Ring doorbell, or dash cam footage covering The Crest between 12:01am on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday who has not yet spoken with officers.
Arrest and Increased Patrols
A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. A police scene is expected to remain at the house for several days, and patrols have been stepped up in the area. Members of the public can expect an increased police presence while enquiries continue.
