Plans have been formally submitted to Stockport Council for the construction of a new housing estate comprising 64 affordable homes on green belt land near the A555 Airport Relief Road in Heald Green. The development, proposed by Breck Homes, is situated off Bolshaw Road, close to the border with Cheshire and the neighbouring area of Handforth.

Developer's Vision for Affordable Living

In its planning application, Breck Homes emphasised that the scheme will deliver 100% affordable housing, with a mix of dwelling types designed to cater to a broad range of residents. The proposal includes one- and two-bedroom apartments alongside two-, three-, and four-bedroom houses. While reports suggest Heald Green train station is a 15-minute walk via Cross Road, mapping services like Google Maps estimate the journey could take closer to half an hour from the application area, highlighting potential discrepancies in accessibility assessments.

Addressing Stockport's Housing Shortage

Stockport, like many parts of Greater Manchester, is grappling with a significant shortage of affordable housing. More than 9,000 people are currently registered on Homechoice, the platform used by social housing provider Stockport Homes for property bidding.
