The heroic LNER rail worker who suffered critical injuries while protecting passengers during a stabbing attack in Huntington has been released from hospital.
A Courageous Act and a Long Road to Recovery
Samir Zitouni, a 48-year-old rail employee with over two decades of service, was discharged from hospital on 15 November. He had been in a critical condition since the alarming incident on 1 November, having sustained multiple serious injuries.
The British Transport Police confirmed his release, stating he will now continue his recovery at home. They paid tribute to the NHS medical staff whose efforts made his discharge possible.
Family's Gratitude and Plea for Privacy
In a moving statement, Samir's family expressed their profound thanks for the public's support. They said they were "so grateful for the outpouring of support from the public, and very touched by all the kind words about Sam's brave actions on the night of the attack."
While overjoyed to have him home, the family emphasised that his recovery journey is far from over. They have now requested privacy to care for him as a family unit during this challenging time.
