Birmingham Hosts One of Europe's Largest Eid Celebrations in Small Heath Park
Birmingham has proudly hosted one of Europe's biggest Eid ul Fitr celebrations, drawing thousands of Muslims to Small Heath Park on Friday, March 20, 2026. This vibrant event marked the end of Ramadan, a month of daily fasting from sunrise to sunset, with prayers and joyous festivities that showcased the city's rich cultural diversity.
Massive Turnout and Community Spirit
Organisers from the Green Lane Masjid & Community Centre anticipated up to 30,000 attendees, and the turnout did not disappoint. Muslims travelled from across the Midlands to participate in the early morning prayers at 9am, leading to significant traffic congestion around Small Heath as families made their way to the park. Despite the logistical challenges, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and unity.
Adil Saleem, Imam and Head of Religious Affairs at Green Lane Masjid, expressed his delight, stating, "On a day like this you'll see so many smiles, people hand in hand, families together, people showing a sense of unity." The celebration featured heartfelt greetings of Eid Mubarak, with attendees hugging, sharing ice cream and sweets, and enjoying fairground rides, creating a memorable experience for all.
Drone Footage Captures the Scale
Incredible drone footage highlighted the sheer scale of the gathering, emphasizing Birmingham's role as a hub for major cultural and religious events. The images revealed vast crowds gathered in prayer and celebration, underscoring the event's significance as one of the largest Eid observances in Europe.
This celebration not only reinforced community bonds but also put Birmingham on the map for its ability to host large-scale multicultural events. As the city continues to embrace its diverse population, such gatherings serve as a testament to the spirit of togetherness and shared joy.
