Saudi Arabia has officially announced the date for Eid ul Fitr 2026 following extensive moon sighting observations across the kingdom. The festival, marking the end of Ramadan, is set to begin on Friday, March 20, after officials reported that the crescent moon was not sighted on March 18, leading to Ramadan completing its full 30 days.

Muslims worldwide are preparing for Eid ul Fitr, which commences at the start of Shawwal, the month following Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. The date is determined by the verified sighting of the first crescent moon. For those in Saudi Arabia who began Ramadan on February 18, day 29 was March 18, while others starting on February 19 will observe day 29 on March 19. Despite efforts, the moon was not visible due to astronomical conditions, with the new moon not forming until March 19.
In other parts of the world, Eid dates have also been declared. Australia has set its celebrations, and North America, including the USA, has confirmed Eid based on astronomical calculations. The Fiqh Council of North America and the Royal Observatory in Greenwich provided forecasts indicating favorable visibility for naked-eye sightings in regions like New York and Los Angeles.
