Star City to Host Eid al-Fitr Family Fun Weekend with Free Activities and Discounts

As the holy month of Ramadan concludes, Birmingham's Star City leisure complex in Nechells is set to host a lively Eid al-Fitr Family Fun Weekend from Friday, March 20, to Sunday, March 22, 2026. This celebration marks the festival of breaking the fast, known as Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to begin on either Thursday, March 19, or Friday, March 20, depending on moon sightings.

Free and Fun Activities for All Ages

The event will offer a range of free activities designed to bring families together in a spirit of creativity and community. Highlights include:

  • Free crafting sessions: Drop-in sessions from 2pm to 7pm over the weekend, where participants can decorate their own photo frames to preserve Eid memories.
  • Face painting: Available from 3pm to 7pm during the weekend, with a minimum donation of £3 per person to support The Edward's Trust, a charity aiding local families in need.
  • Surprise mascot appearances: Characters will roam the mall on March 20 and 21 from 2.30pm to 8pm, taking selfies and spreading joy.

Henna and Food Discounts at Shobha's

In addition to the weekend festivities, Shobha's Indian Street Food restaurant at Star City will host Eid henna sessions on Wednesday, March 18, and Thursday, March 19, from 2pm to 10pm. Prices start at £10, with 10% of proceeds donated to charity. While waiting for henna, visitors can enjoy a 20% discount on all food items.

Community Spirit and Celebration

A spokesperson for Star City expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "Celebrate Eid with us at Star City—a special time to come together with family, friends, and loved ones. Join us for a week filled with creativity, colour, and community spirit this March!" The celebration aims to foster inclusivity and joy, reflecting the significance of Eid al-Fitr as the first Eid occasion in the Islamic calendar, signaling the start of Shawwal month.

Families are encouraged to attend the main event from March 20 to 22, with some activities starting as early as March 18. This initiative is part of broader Eid al-Fitr celebrations across Birmingham, which include family fun days, markets, craft activities, and beauty spa treats.
