Banbury Teen Named St John Ambulance's National Cadet of the Year
A 17-year-old from Banbury has been honoured as St John Ambulance's National Cadet of the Year, celebrating her outstanding dedication to first aid, volunteering, and leadership. Emily England, who previously secured the South East County Cadet of the Year title, triumphed over other district champions at the national final held in Ingestre Hall, Staffordshire, in early March.
Award Celebrates 40 Years of Youth Excellence
The National Cadet of the Year award, which will mark its 40th anniversary in 2026, recognises young volunteers who demonstrate exceptional first aid knowledge, teamwork, communication skills, and commitment to their communities. Emily has already applied her training in real-life scenarios, such as assisting with a minor head injury at Banbury Fair and supporting her grandfather during a medication-related emergency.
"I am delighted to have been awarded National Cadet of the Year. I aim to use my platform to highlight the brilliance of our young people and ensure every voice feels heard," said Emily.
Representing the Charity Nationwide
As National Cadet of the Year, Emily will represent St John Ambulance at various events and ceremonial occasions throughout the year, including the Young Achievers' reception in London. Rear Admiral Simon Williams, Prior of the Priory of England and the Islands, commented: "It is inspiring to see such high levels of skill, confidence and compassion among our young volunteers."
