Olly Murs: The Strictly star's body transformation, twin feud and love life
Olly Murs' body transformation, twin feud and love life

Pop star and television presenter Olly Murs is set to light up the stage on Strictly Come Dancing tonight, Sunday, November 16, performing his new song 'Run This Town'. While his successful career is well-documented, from his 2009 X Factor runner-up status to his hit singles and presenting roles, there is much more to the 41-year-old's story.

A Drastic Body Transformation

Olly Murs has stunned his fans on social media with a remarkable physical transformation, showcasing a lean frame and a rock-solid set of abs. This new physique was not achieved overnight but was the result of dedicated effort and significant lifestyle changes.

The singer completely overhauled his diet, cutting out sugar and processed foods. He revealed that he now drinks an impressive three to four litres of water every day. Reflecting on the start of his journey back in 2019, Olly stated that simply eliminating chocolate and sugary items caused the weight to 'just fall off'.

His regimen also involved intensive training sessions with a personal trainer, focusing on compound exercises like squats and pull-ups, and incorporating boxing into his fitness routine.

The 'Stupid' Two-Decade Fallout With His Twin

One of the most poignant aspects of Olly's personal life is his estrangement from his twin brother, Ben. The pair have not spoken since a major fallout in 2009. The rift occurred when Olly chose to perform on The X Factor semi-final instead of acting as Ben's best man at his wedding, a decision that led Ben to label Olly a 'self-obsessed sell-out'.

Speaking on the Parenting Hell podcast, Olly shared that becoming a parent himself has changed his perspective. He expressed a deep hope for reconciliation, stating he believes that when they finally meet face-to-face, they will realise their lengthy silence has been 'a bit f****** stupid'. Olly remains optimistic that one day they will be able to 'hug it out and move on'.

Career Shifts and Personal Settling

Olly's professional life faced an unexpected turn in late 2023 when he was dropped from his coaching role on The Voice UK. He was openly gutted by the decision, confirming it was not his choice to leave. Fellow judge Sir Tom Jones later revealed that Olly was 'really bothered' by the move, having loved his job on the show.

In contrast to his career turbulence, Olly's love life has found happy stability. After dating for four years, he married Amelia Tank in 2023. The couple now have two children, a daughter named Madison and a son named Albert.

Before settling down, Olly had several public relationships. He admitted there 'might have been something' with model Melanie Sykes and dated fellow X Factor contestant Laura Henderson. His eight-month relationship with hairdresser Keli Flower ended when he reportedly told her he was on the verge of fame. A subsequent three-year relationship with Francesca Thomas inspired his 2016 album '24 Hrs', though the pair reportedly remained friends after their split.
