Stourport-on-Severn, often described as Birmingham's 'closest seaside town that has everything but a beach', is set to welcome back its popular Riverside Paddling Pool after a two-year closure. The pool, a favourite among families, did not open in 2025 due to the need for complex repair work to ensure its availability for future generations.
The town offers a range of attractions including a fairground, fish and chips, arcade games, parks, playgrounds, a crazy golf course, a bouncy castle, a theatre, and independent shops, all set along a beautiful riverside.
Progress on Repairs
Stourport Town Council has announced that the repair work is progressing well and the pool is on track to open for the summer season. A spokesman stated: 'We’re pleased to inform you that the works being undertaken at the Riverside Paddling Pool are progressing well. We’re currently on track for the paddling pool to open as usual for the summer season, in time for the Spring Bank Holiday weekend towards the end of May 2026.'
The next stage involves relaying the flooring, which is highly dependent on suitable weather conditions. The contractor requires a period of warm, dry weather to complete this work. The timetable for reopening may be unavoidably impacted by the weather forecast over the coming weeks.
Community Reaction
Local families are thrilled with the news. One mother said: 'My family and I are so excited about this news!' The pool's return is expected to boost the town's appeal as a summer destination.
