A cherished Birmingham cultural hub is preparing to welcome visitors for its yearly Winter Craft Market, offering a cosy indoor Christmas shopping experience away from the bustling high street.
A Festive Evening for Local Makers
Ikon Gallery, located on the scenic Oozells Square in Brindleyplace, will host an evening of festive cheer on Thursday, December 4. Running from 5pm until 8pm, the event promises a 'unique alternative to high street shopping' by showcasing a curated selection of cards, gifts, jewellery, homeware, and food from independent Birmingham sellers.
A gallery spokesperson emphasised that the event is 'more than just shopping'. It is a chance for both Brummies and city visitors to celebrate local talent and craftsmanship, all set against the backdrop of Ikon's contemporary art exhibitions.
What to Expect at the Market
The market will spread across the gallery's ground floor, events room, and cafe. Visitors can browse stalls featuring a wide array of handmade items, including jewellery, ceramics, textiles, homeware, prints, cards, and one-of-a-kind gifts.
This year's featured makers include established names like Sketch Avenue, Punks and Chancers, and Stirchley Printworks. They will be joined by emerging creatives such as Ellis Mills, Parv Lloyd Jewellery, and Amy and the Thread, ensuring a fresh and diverse range of designs.
For those with a sweet tooth, Tokidokie Cookies will be providing delicious treats from their local kitchen.
Celebrating Creativity and Community
Entry to the market is completely free, with donations welcomed, making it an accessible event for all. The spokesperson stated that after the success of previous years, Ikon is committed to continuing its support for Birmingham's vibrant creative community.
The event provides a vital platform for independent artists and designers to showcase their work. By championing these local makers, the market aims to strengthen the city's creative economy and promote sustainable, thoughtful shopping during the festive season.
"It's about fostering connections—between artists and buyers, and between the gallery and its community," Ikon stated. Every purchase directly supports independent creativity and Ikon's work as a registered charity.
For those unable to attend in person, a selection of Christmas gifts is available to browse and purchase through Ikon's web shop.
