The picturesque village of Ashford-in-the-Water in Derbyshire is gearing up for its eagerly anticipated annual community celebrations, set to take place in 2026. The beloved well dressings and flower festival will run concurrently, offering a vibrant showcase of local traditions and creativity from Saturday, May 30 to Sunday, June 7.
Festival Theme and Highlights
This year's festival adopts the inspiring theme "For All the Saints...", which will be reflected across six unique well dressings created by community volunteers. These historic displays, made from natural materials like petals and seeds, celebrate the village's heritage and artistic spirit. Alongside the well dressings, the flower festival will feature stunning floral arrangements in Holy Trinity Church, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Schedule of Events
The well dressings and flower festival displays will be open to the public daily throughout the event period, from Saturday, May 30 through to Sunday, June 7. Visitors can explore these intricate works at their leisure, immersing themselves in the village's rich cultural tapestry.
Well Blessing and Village Parade
On Sunday, May 30, the festival kicks off with traditional ceremonies. At 3pm, a Well Blessing Service and Sermon will be held at the Old Preaching Cross, led by the Very Revd Dr Peter Robinson, Dean of Derby Cathedral. This will be followed at 3.30pm by the Village Parade and Blessing of the Wells, starting from Holy Trinity Church (DE45 1QG). The Dean will be accompanied by the Youlgreave Silver Band, providing live music for the procession.
Village Day and Closing Service
On Saturday, June 6 at 2pm, Village Day will take place at the Hall Orchard Playing Field on Court Lane. This family-friendly event will feature entertainment from the Matlock Band, along with games, food stalls, and community activities. The festival will then conclude on Sunday, June 7 at 5.30pm with a Closing Service of Thanksgiving at Holy Trinity Church, offering a moment of reflection and gratitude for the successful celebrations.
