Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market Closes After 54 Festive Days
Birmingham Christmas Market Closes, But Some Attractions Stay

Birmingham's beloved Frankfurt Christmas Market draws to a close today, ending a 54-day run of festive celebrations in the heart of the city.

Final Day for the Traditional Market Stalls

The annual market, which stretched from Centenary Square down New Street, opened earlier than ever this year on November 1. For nearly two months, the area has been alive with the sounds of celebration, the aroma of sizzling bratwurst, and crowds enjoying German beer. However, the iconic wooden huts lining Victoria Square and New Street will now be packed away for another year.

Winter Attractions Continue into the New Year

While the market itself is departing, the festive spirit is not completely extinguished. Two major attractions will continue to offer seasonal fun. Ice Skate Birmingham, the 600-square-metre rink beside the Library of Birmingham, and the adjacent big wheel will remain in operation until Sunday, January 4. Both will be closed only on Christmas Day itself.

The ice rink, situated in a picturesque location away from the main Bullring shopping crowds, is open from 10am until 11pm and features an Ice Lounge and Bar. Tickets are priced at £14 for adults and £12 for children, with discounts available online for students, groups, and families. Pre-booking slots are still available for skating sessions up to the first weekend of 2026.

The big wheel will also keep turning, offering panoramic winter views over the city for £7 per ride.

Other Festive Activities in the City Centre

For those seeking further activities in the area between Christmas and New Year, several other options are available. The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery will be open from December 27 to December 31, between 10am and 5pm.

Visitors can also enjoy a bracing winter walk along the city's canals. A popular route starts at the Old Turn Junction behind the ICC, leading walkers down to Gas Street Basin and onwards to the Mailbox.
