Dedicated fans of the hit movie Wicked: For Good have unlocked a magical mystery, deciphering the meaning behind the spell that appears for Glinda in the film's emotional finale. The discovery was made using a special translator included in official merchandise.
The Magical Discovery
In the final moments of Wicked: For Good, released in December 2025, director Jon M. Chu introduces a significant change. As Elphaba departs Oz with Fiyero, a heartbroken Glinda is left behind, having chosen the path of goodness. In a pivotal scene, the powerful book of magic, the Grimmerie, opens for her, implying she has gained magical abilities—a moment underscored by a knowing smirk from Elphaba.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted a detailed incantation on the page. The key to translation, however, came from an unexpected source: official Wicked: For Good popcorn buckets. These collectibles included a Grimmerie translator, allowing fans to finally interpret the text meant for Glinda.
Translating the Spell of Soothing
On 23 November 2025, a fan named Gabi shared the breakthrough in a viral tweet, writing: "the spell the grimmerie opened to for glinda is for easing and soothing pain and fear". The translated text, layered over an image from the film, reveals a spell focused entirely on healing.
The spell is divided across two pages. The first section commands: "Heal, mend sinew and skin / Heal mend and hasten / Feel the wound cover the bone / Heal, mend and revive." It concludes with the line, "Pain and fear allayed when true magic applied."
The second page continues: "Revive, heal, nature so willing be / Soothing powers conspire from me." It ends with, "Mend, mending deftly to the wound / Easing quickly soon ensues / Fear and pain now set aside."
A Gift of Healing from Elphaba
This translation provides profound insight into the film's ending. It suggests that Elphaba's legacy to Glinda is more than just the Grimmerie itself. By leaving her the book open to this specific spell, Elphaba has given Glinda the magical tools to heal her own emotional pain following their separation.
This fan-driven discovery highlights one of the several alterations Chu made for the cinematic adaptation, which also included new solo songs for both Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), and an updated scene for Nessarose.
The decoded spell reinforces the film's core themes of friendship, loss, and resilience, offering a poignant conclusion to Glinda's arc as she steps into her new role and power, equipped to soothe the very heartache she experiences.
