Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has criticised Roy Keane for his remarks about John McGinn, telling the Manchester United legend to 'be quiet'. Keane had acknowledged McGinn's importance to Villa but claimed he 'looks like a pub player' when not performing well.
Agbonlahor Defends McGinn
On talkSPORT, Agbonlahor expressed his frustration: 'I have a bone to pick with Roy Keane because he said that when John McGinn is not at it, he is a pub player. That just sums up Roy Keane. It says to me, tell me you don't watch Aston Villa every week, without telling me.'
'John McGinn, every game he is at it. He said McGinn is a very good player, but when not at it, he reminds me of a pub player. McGinn is reliable, seven out of 10. Roy Keane, be quiet please, mate.'
Keane's Coaching Style Questioned
Asked about Keane as a coach, Agbonlahor said: 'Not a great coach. In his coaching career he wasn't good. Anger issues. Different generation of players. I remember after a game against QPR, he threw a can of Red Bull into the shower, saying 'I see you all drinking it, it doesn't work - do the science!' He had a tantrum. But in one of his books he said he took a Red Bull every game, so make your mind up Roy.'
McGinn, Villa's captain, recently lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy and helped secure a top-four finish for the second time in three seasons, underlining his consistency.
