Birmingham's nearest lido, Droitwich Spa Lido, has announced that its splash pad will not be open over the Bank Holiday weekend and May half term as originally planned. The news comes as a heatwave is forecast, prompting many families to seek out local lidos and splash pads.
Droitwich Spa Lido, one of the last remaining open-air saltwater swimming pools in the UK, features a small splash pad adjacent to the main pool. However, Rivers Fitness, which operates the lido, has confirmed the splash pad will remain closed until after half term.
A spokesman for Rivers Fitness said: "The Splash Pad at Droitwich Spa Lido will not be in use until after half term. We apologise for any disappointment caused and appreciate your understanding. We’ll share an update as soon as it is available to use again."
What Is Still Open at Droitwich Spa Lido?
Despite the splash pad closure, the 40-metre outdoor pool remains open, along with the café serving snacks and ice creams. Additionally, a brand new splash pad called Saltwich Splash has opened in Lido Park next to the lido, and it is completely free to use.
Saltwich Splash Features
Saltwich Splash offers water sprays, green arches to run through, a tipper bucket, a boulder area, and a water run with different levels accessible via a ramp. The £550,000 water play area, located near the tennis courts in Lido Park, features a wildlife theme with images of frogs, bees, squirrels, and otters.
