A modern Japanese-style izakaya bar called 'Else' is set to open in Birmingham's trendy Stirchley neighbourhood this July. The venue will take over the former Joshuaa Shaun hair salon on Pershore Road, nestled between the popular Deadbeat dive bar and Stir.
What to Expect at Else
Else will operate as an izakaya, a Japanese tavern known for serving good food and drinks in informal surroundings. Patrons can expect cocktails and small plates, with a soundtrack of vinyl records playing in the background. The company behind Else is Independent Stirchley Limited, which also runs Stir and the wine and cheese bar Cheddar on the same road.
Stirchley's Independent Scene
Stirchley has gained a reputation for its independent hospitality venues, including the Michelin Guide-rated Rabbit restaurant, 'best bakery' Levain and Cherry, multi award-winning cocktail bar Couch, and the beloved micropub Cork and Cage. The arrival of Else adds to this vibrant mix.
Also Opening: Sundays Wellness Cafe
Elsewhere on Pershore Road, a new wellness cafe called Sundays Wellness Cafe will also open in July at 1505 Pershore Road. The cafe will serve acai, matcha, brunch, coffees, fresh juice and smoothies, loaded sweet potatoes, and other healthy dishes for dine-in or takeaway.
Location and Transport
Else will be located at 1471 Pershore Road, while Sundays Wellness Cafe will be at 1505. The nearest train station is Bournville, just around the corner on Mary Vale Road. The postcode for the area is B30 2JL.
