X Factor Star George Windsor Reveals Promise to Be Next Rylan Clark Never Materialised
X Factor Star George Windsor on Rylan Clark Promise

George Windsor, a musician from Hednesford in Cannock, has shared that he was told he could be the next Rylan Clark before auditioning for ITV's The X Factor in 2016. At 21, he performed for judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, and Nicole Scherzinger, securing three 'yeses'. However, he now reveals that what followed exposed the darker side of fame.

Promise of Stardom That Never Came

Windsor explained that a former manager recruited him for the show, promising guaranteed success. 'She told me that it was guaranteed that I would get through and I was a bit like 'really?',' he recalled. The manager claimed he would become the next Rylan Clark, who launched a successful TV career after his 2012 X Factor audition. But Windsor never wanted television fame; his goal was always to write and perform music full-time.

'The experience was great as you're on a platform and have cameras around you all the time,' Windsor said. 'You think you're on that path of going to make it but the reality sinks in when you realise they're focused on their winner and the next series.' He added that the judges made him feel valued, but 'they're constantly moving on and you're old news to them.'

Online Abuse and Lingering Effects

After his audition aired, Windsor faced significant trolling online, including from former schoolmates. 'I had a lot of trolling,' he said. 'Even people from my actual town were very bitter and jealous. Just because I was trying to make something of myself it bothered people. In little towns like this it's 'who do they think they are?'' Despite this, he noted support from some locals, calling them 'amazing.'

Windsor acknowledged he wasn't ready for the music industry at the time, needing vocal work. 'I sound nothing like that now,' he said. 'I don't even look like that anymore so some people don't recognise me from the audition. I'm happy with my image and I'm very confident with myself now.'

Continuing the Music Dream

Now 31, Windsor continues to pursue music, writing songs for other artists and performing regularly in London and Manchester with a new manager. 'I didn't want to be a star, I just wanted to be successful with music,' he concluded. His story highlights the gap between reality TV promises and lasting career outcomes.
