Legendary broadcaster Bob Harris, 80, has announced he is stepping down from his BBC Radio 2 shows Sounds Of The 70s and the Radio 2 Country Show due to ill health, as he battles prostate cancer that has spread to his upper spine.

Bob Harris Steps Down Due to Health Concerns

The 80-year-old broadcasting veteran has prostate cancer which has spread to his upper spine, forcing him to make what he called "one of the hardest decisions of my life." Harris, whose career spans almost 56 years, said: "I am so sorry that my health issues are forcing me to step down, but I realise that I must concentrate on getting myself well again."

Gratitude to Listeners

The radio icon expressed heartfelt gratitude to his listeners, adding: "Your love and loyalty mean more to me than words can ever say. I am going to miss you, and I love you very much." Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, hailed Harris as "a true radio legend" and praised his role in making country music the fastest-growing genre in the UK since hosting The Radio 2 Country Show since 1999.

Shaun Keaveny will take over Sounds Of The 70s, whilst Darius Rucker continues hosting The Radio 2 Country Show in the interim.
