Independent secondary schools in the Midlands have been named among the very best in England, according to new national league tables published by the Sunday Times. The prestigious list, widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the country's top schools, includes three West Midlands independent secondaries in England's top 50.
King Edward VI High School for Girls Leads the Region
The best independent secondary in the region is King Edward VI High School for Girls in Birmingham, which secured an impressive 11th place overall, just outside the top 10. This marks it as one of England's finest educational institutions.
Other Top-Ranked Schools
Joining King Edward VI High School for Girls in the national top 50 are Concord College, a boarding and day school in Shrewsbury, and King Edward's in Birmingham. Solihull School also performed strongly, ranking 94th and securing a place in the top 100.
Comprehensive Schools Recognised
In the Parent Power league table, St Paul's School for Girls in Edgbaston was named the best comprehensive in the Midlands. Comprehensive schools accept children from the local area regardless of background or ability, highlighting the inclusive excellence in the region.
These rankings celebrate the academic achievements and high standards of education across Midlands independent and grammar schools, which accept some of the brightest children or those from wealthier backgrounds.
