Ofsted has praised a number of primary and secondary schools across Birmingham and the West Midlands, awarding them new 'strong standard' ratings following recent inspections. This rating is just one step below the highest possible 'exceptional' grade under the revised assessment system.
New Inspection Framework
The education watchdog has replaced previous one-word overall ratings such as 'outstanding' or 'inadequate' with a multi-area grading system. Schools are now evaluated across several categories including behaviour, attendance, teaching, and learning. This change aims to provide parents with a more detailed understanding of school performance.
Schools Receiving High Marks
Among the latest schools to receive positive grades were Cardinal Wiseman Catholic secondary school in Kingstanding, which achieved 'strong standard' ratings in five areas, and Northfield Manor Primary Academy in Weoley Castle, which was rated 'strong standard' in all seven areas.
Headteachers have welcomed the recognition, noting that the new system allows schools to highlight specific strengths. The 'strong standard' rating indicates strong performance in one or several areas, giving parents clearer insight into where a school excels.
