Birmingham's Crown Place Skyscraper Officially Opens After £85 Million Development
Work on a massive £85 million student accommodation scheme in Birmingham has officially concluded, according to its operators. The newly completed Crown Place now stands as the tallest student accommodation building in the city, reaching an impressive 33 storeys high.
Prime Location and Purpose-Built Design
This purpose-built student site is strategically located on the corner of Lancaster Street, positioning it as a central hub for students from Aston University, Birmingham City University, and the University of Birmingham. The development is operated by the global student housing brand Yugo, which manages properties worldwide.
The Crown Place complex consists of 814 student beds distributed across various configurations. These include 572 studio apartments, 114 cluster flats, and 128 duplex rooms. The accommodation spans a 33-storey main tower along with adjoining nine and twelve-storey blocks, creating a substantial presence in the Birmingham skyline.
Extensive Amenities and Community Spaces
Beyond providing hundreds of new beds, the student site boasts an impressive 13,000 square feet of amenity space designed to enhance student life. Facilities include multiple study rooms, communal kitchens, private dining areas, comfortable lounges, a cinema room, and karaoke rooms for entertainment.
Students will also have access to a fully equipped gym for fitness needs, a first-floor terrace for outdoor relaxation, and a Sky lounge located at level 33 offering panoramic views of Birmingham. These spaces are specifically designed to foster community connections and support student well-being.
Development Team and Vision
The tall building is owned by Crown Student Living, with the £85 million initiative designed by ECE Westworks, engineered by Meinhardt, and completed by Winvic Construction. This collaboration brought together expertise from multiple disciplines to realize the ambitious project.
