A significant fire broke out at the University of Warwick on Wednesday evening, forcing the evacuation of students from an accommodation block and prompting a major emergency response.

Eight fire crews from West Midlands Fire Service rushed to the scene at the Arthur Vick 1 halls of residence on November 19 after reports of a serious blaze. The incident occurred late in the evening, with dramatic footage quickly circulating on social media showing the building engulfed in flames as students gathered outside.

University authorities confirmed that all residents were successfully evacuated from the affected block during the emergency. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported following the incident, and the fire has now been completely extinguished.

University Support for Affected Students

In an official statement released to students, the University of Warwick outlined the immediate support measures being implemented. "Those affected are being helped by the university to find alternative forms of emergency accommodation," a spokesperson confirmed.

The university has also mobilised its wellbeing services to provide emotional support to students impacted by the traumatic event. West Midlands Fire Service had earlier issued a public advisory, stating: "We have eight crews in attendance in the Canley area, Coventry, where they have responded to fire. Please avoid the area, where possible." The rapid response and coordinated efforts between emergency services and university staff helped prevent any casualties during the incident.
