The Met Office has named all the places in England facing thunderstorms on Thursday as the UK heatwave breaks. The Met Office has warned many areas will be "missing the worst" but thunderstorms could bring disruption in places on Thursday evening.
Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms
In a warning, the Met Office has activated a yellow alert for thunderstorms, stating: "There is a small chance that buildings and temporary structures could be damaged by the sudden arrival of strong winds. There is a chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus. Probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes. Some short term loss of power and other services is possible. A small chance of flooding of a few homes and businesses, leading to some damage to buildings or structures."
Thursday Forecast
A Met Office forecast for Thursday explains: "Plenty of sunshine, though low cloud affecting some North Sea coasts. Hot for most, exceptionally so across southern and central parts of England and Wales. Breezier than Wednesday. Wetter and cloudier for northwest Scotland, with spells of heavy rain. Rain in the northwest turning thundery. Further thunderstorms with strong gusty winds developing across southwest England during Thursday evening before spreading northeastwards overnight. Warm and humid for all."
Outlook for Friday and the Weekend
Looking ahead to Friday (June 26), it adds: "Rather cloudy across northern regions with outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by hail and gusty winds. Peak heat transferring to eastern England, with temperatures further west dropping slightly." And the outlook for Saturday to Monday says: "Still hot in the southeast on Saturday. Fresher conditions gradually arriving from the west during the weekend, but this accompanied by spells of rain and thundery showers. Drier by Monday."

The full list of areas affected by thunderstorms today includes Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Plymouth, Somerset, and Torbay. Residents and travelers in these regions are advised to be cautious of potential disruption from heavy rain, hail, lightning, and strong winds.
