Two people have been hit with £400 fixed penalty notices for fly-tipping household waste in Walsall, as the council intensifies its enforcement efforts using CCTV surveillance. The incidents occurred in Monmer Lane, Willenhall, and Suttons Drive, Great Barr, with both offenders identified and held accountable.
CCTV Evidence Leads to Swift Action
According to Walsall Council, one offender admitted to the crime after being captured on CCTV, while the other was traced, interviewed, and accepted responsibility. Councillor Adam Hicken, the portfolio holder for enforcement and safe communities, emphasized the critical role of technology in combating this issue.
"Fly-tipping is a criminal offence which blights our streets," Hicken stated. "The power of CCTV cannot be understated in tackling this issue. That is why we have invested in getting additional capacity, which we are now seeing the benefits of."

The council is continuing to roll out new CCTV cameras across the borough as part of an ongoing investment in enforcement. All income generated from these fixed penalty notices is reinvested into enforcement activities and environmental services, ensuring a sustainable approach to tackling waste crimes.
"We will continue to shine a light on these examples, to ensure the public know this behaviour is not tolerated in Walsall," Hicken added. "Those who choose to fly-tip in the place we call home risk a substantial fine or prosecution through the courts."
