Navigating Icy Terrains on Haslingden Grane
On Wednesday, a determined group of twenty-five ramblers embarked on a demanding ten-mile trek starting from the Clough Head visitor centre. They were immediately confronted by treacherous icy conditions underfoot, requiring careful navigation throughout the journey.
With appropriate caution, the walkers successfully traversed the expansive Oswaldtwistle Moor, passing several picturesque reservoirs along their route. The group then descended to follow the disused Haslingden-to-Accrington railway line before undertaking a challenging ascent of Haslingden Moor, completing their frosty adventure through this timeless landscape.
Sunny Contrast in Kirklees Valley
In stark contrast to Wednesday's icy expedition, Saturday presented beautifully balmy conditions that greeted seventeen walkers and three canine companions. This more leisurely two-hour pub walk commenced from Summerseat and meandered peacefully through the scenic Kirklees Valley.
The pleasant weather facilitated a particularly sociable atmosphere, with the group enjoying a lengthy and chatty lunch following their valley stroll. This provided a perfect example of how different weather conditions can create entirely distinct walking experiences within the same week.
Drizzly Exploration Around Arnside
Sunday saw ten dedicated ramblers make the substantial journey to Arnside for a nine-mile walk that unfortunately coincided with rather drizzly weather conditions. The persistent drizzle somewhat spoiled what should have been extensive panoramic views from the prominent Arnside Knott viewpoint.
Despite the weather-related disappointment regarding visibility, the group nevertheless found enjoyment in their exploration and particularly appreciated the knowledgeable insights into local flora provided by their walk leader throughout the journey.

The walk is planned to conclude around 1.30pm, deliberately leaving ample time for participants to enjoy family activities during the remainder of their Sunday, making this an ideal introduction to group walking for those with weekend commitments.
Wednesday Moorland Adventure
Then on Wednesday, January 28th, the Ramblers will remain local for a more substantial ten-mile walk starting from Helmshore. This route encompasses numerous points of interest including Stubbins, Holcombe village, Pilgrims' Cross, Bull Hill, Alden Valley and Tor End.
Walk leaders have emphasised that in anything approaching decent weather conditions, participants can expect absolutely stunning views throughout this varied moorland circuit, showcasing some of the finest landscapes the Rossendale area has to offer walkers.
