Rossendale Ramblers: Sunny Walks and March Routes Announced

Rossendale Ramblers Report Excellent Weather for Recent Walks

The Rossendale Ramblers have enjoyed a welcome break from the rain this week, with two successful walks taking advantage of the dry conditions. On Wednesday, a group of 24 walkers embarked on a 10-mile circular route starting from Padiham. This pleasant walk featured extensive woodland areas, Read and Padiham Heights, sections of the Pendle Way, and scenic views along the River Calder.

Historic Landmarks and Weekend Walks

On Sunday, 12 participants completed a six-mile walk from Summerseat. The route crossed the East Lancashire Railway line and proceeded up to Walmersley and Nangreaves. A highlight of this walk was Grants' Tower, a historic structure built by the Grant brothers in 1828. Notably, the last resident of this tower was Edwin Waugh, a well-known local dialect poet.

Upcoming March Walks Schedule

The group has announced several walks for early March, offering varied experiences for outdoor enthusiasts:

  • On Saturday, March 7, a sociable two-hour pub walk will depart from Holcombe Village. This walk will include a visit to Pilgrims' Cross on Holcombe Moor before returning to the pub for optional refreshments and food.
  • On Sunday, March 8, an eight-mile walk will start from Burrs Country Park. This route will visit Summerseat and Tottington, with an expected finish by 2pm to allow time for family commitments.
  • On Wednesday, March 11, an 11-mile walk from the Edenfield area will thoroughly explore the beautiful countryside in this part of Lancashire.
