Ramblers Embrace the Elements on Recent Outings
A dedicated group of walkers from the Rossendale Ramblers recently enjoyed two contrasting but equally rewarding hikes, demonstrating that great British weather is no match for a cheerful spirit and good waterproofs.
On Wednesday, a substantial group of 25 ramblers set off on a nine-mile walk beginning at the picturesque Burrs Country Park. The route showcased the area's artistic side, taking in the impressive installations of the Irwell Sculpture Trail before leading the group onto the Kirklees trail.
From there, the walk proceeded past Greenmount golf course and the Holcombe firing range, before navigating the notably watery paths of Redisher Woods. The circular walk concluded via Summerseat, providing a satisfying day out for all involved.
Wind and Rain Fail to Dampen Spirits
The weekend brought a different kind of adventure. On Sunday, 16 stalwart walkers embarked on a six-mile trek from Ashworth Moor Reservoir near Edenfield. They were met with very wet and windy conditions, which put their outdoor gear to the test.
Despite the challenging weather, the group's mood remained remarkably cheerful throughout, proving that a positive attitude is the best companion on any walk. The experience served as a rigorous, real-world test of their waterproof clothing.
Join the Ramblers on Upcoming Adventures
Looking ahead, the Rossendale Ramblers have two more enticing walks scheduled for the community. The first is a six-mile, low-level walk scheduled for Sunday, November 30. This route starts from Edgworth and will take in the local reservoirs, promising to be particularly scenic if the weather improves.
This walk will finish by 2pm, intentionally leaving plenty of time for family matters and other Sunday activities. The group hopes this convenient timing will encourage new faces to join them.
Then, on Wednesday, December 3, the Ramblers will stay local for a more extensive 10-mile walk starting from Heywood. This route is designed to thoroughly explore the surrounding area.
All walks organised by the Rossendale Ramblers are free to attend. However, after enjoying three walks with the group, participants are kindly asked to become members of The Ramblers organisation, which costs just £3.75 per month.
