Energy supplier EDF has thrown a financial lifeline to households across the UK by launching a new fixed tariff that significantly undercuts the government's energy price cap.
A Welcome Pre-Christmas Saving
The new deal, named Simply Fixed Nov26v6, is set at £1,604 per year for a typical dual-fuel customer paying by direct debit. This places it a substantial £151 below the current price cap level, offering guaranteed savings against a Standard Variable Tariff (SVT).
Rich Hughes, EDF's Director of Retail, commented on the timing, stating, "With Christmas approaching and winter just around the corner, we understand that the cost of energy can be a concern for our customers." He emphasised that the tariff provides "peace of mind against the current cap and what are likely to be big increases next April."
Key Details and Potential Savings
This exclusive offer is available directly through EDF to both new and existing customers. However, due to the ongoing volatility in wholesale energy markets, the company has warned that the deal could be withdrawn at any time. Customers should also be aware that exit fees of £50 per fuel will apply if they leave the tariff early.
EDF is also promoting other ways for customers to save. Its innovative 'Sunday Saver' challenge rewards eligible customers who shift their electricity usage away from peak weekday hours (4pm–7pm). By doing so, they can earn between 4 and 16 hours of free electricity to use on subsequent Sundays. The November challenge is already underway, with free electricity days set for the 16th, 23rd, 30th of November and the 7th of December.
Broader Efforts to Cut Costs
Beyond this new fixed tariff, EDF continues to offer some of the most competitive deals among major suppliers. The company has also recently introduced FreePhase, a pioneering electricity tariff designed to give customers more control. By shifting energy use away from peak times, households could save up to £187 a year on their electricity bills compared to standard variable rates.
For an additional saving, EDF customers can sign up to the 'Refer a Friend' scheme via their online MyAccount, which grants both parties a £50 credit on their energy bills.
