Brits Urged to Perform Quick Boiler Check to Save £325 Annually on Energy Bills
Quick Boiler Check Could Save Brits £325 on Energy Bills

Energy Bills to Decrease from April, But Quick Boiler Check Offers Extra £325 Saving

From April 1 to June 30, 2026, the Ofgem energy price cap for a typical dual-fuel household paying by Direct Debit in Great Britain will drop by 7% to £1,641 annually. This reduction of £117 from the previous quarter's £1,758 means typical households will save approximately £10 per month.

Simple Boiler Adjustment Can Lead to Significant Savings

Experts at comparison firm Utility Bidder highlight that a straightforward two-minute check of your boiler settings can save around £325 over a year. Mark Gamble, head of supplier relations at Utility Bidder, explained to the Daily Express that adjusting your boiler's flow temperature can enhance efficiency without compromising comfort.

"Turning down your boiler’s flow temperature can make it run far more efficiently, without making your home feel colder," Gamble stated. "Check your boiler settings and reduce the flow temperature to around 60°C or lower."

How the Adjustment Works

This modification helps modern boilers operate in ‘condensing mode’, which consumes less energy. Setting the flow temperature correctly can boost the boiler’s efficiency by approximately 15%. Under the current Ofgem price cap, this adjustment translates to roughly £325 in annual savings on gas bills.

Gamble further noted that many individuals believe their energy usage drops completely when heating is off, but in reality, timers, thermostats, and default settings can still activate the system in the background.

Additional Tips for Energy Efficiency

Making minor adjustments, such as switching to summer mode, lowering flow temperature, or tightening timers, can significantly impact overall energy consumption. "These are quick, simple changes, but together they can lead to significant savings over time," Gamble emphasized.

With energy bills decreasing, taking proactive steps like these can further alleviate financial pressures on households. Utility Bidder's advice underscores the importance of regular maintenance and smart settings to maximize energy efficiency and cost savings.
