The Food Standards Agency has published a fresh batch of food hygiene ratings for Birmingham's vibrant culinary scene this autumn, revealing how 35 local businesses scored in their latest inspections.
Understanding the Food Hygiene Rating System
The ratings, which range from zero to five, provide consumers with a clear indication of hygiene standards found during inspections. A top score of five signifies very good standards, while a zero indicates that urgent improvement is required.
Inspectors assess venues on multiple factors including food handling and storage practices, food preparation methods, overall cleanliness of facilities, and how food safety is managed day-to-day.
Birmingham's Latest Top Performers
Several Birmingham establishments achieved the highest possible rating of five, demonstrating excellent food hygiene standards. Among the top performers are Pizza By Goli in Sutton New Hall, inspected on November 3, and Peria in Bournville, rated on October 29.
Other perfect scorers include Dolce Desserts on Alum Rock Road, the prestigious Bank Restaurant at Brindley Place, and Bayt Al-Shawarma in Sparkbrook. Popular chains also featured strongly, with multiple Caffe Nero, Burger King, and Popeyes locations all achieving top marks.
Mixed Results Across the City
While many businesses excelled, others received more moderate scores. Four establishments were rated three out of five, meaning they were deemed generally satisfactory but with room for improvement.
These include Dhiafa Restaurant in Hall Green, Original Karahi King on Stratford Road, Sundus Sweets on Whitmore Road, and Multi Pizza in South Yardley.
Several venues received a rating of four, indicating good standards. These include Breadcrumbz in Handsworth Wood, Yorka on Buckingham Street, Just Veggie on Alcester Street, and ONE OR TWO BERRIES LIMITED on Wrentham Street.
The inspections took place between September 12 and November 3, 2025, providing a comprehensive snapshot of food safety standards across Birmingham's diverse eating establishments during the autumn season.
