Emaciated Lurcher Found 'Close to Death' After Being Dumped at Malvern Hills

A dog was discovered in a critical condition, described as "close to death," with his bones visibly protruding through his skin after being abandoned at a Midland beauty spot. The adult lurcher, now named Phoenix, was found alone on the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire by a member of the public.

Worst Case of Neglect Ever Seen

Harrowing photographs revealed every rib jutting through his emaciated frame, and his legs were so frail he could barely stand. Alongside severe malnourishment, Phoenix also had an open wound on his back when rescued last month. Senior dog warden Pip Griffin stated, "This is the worst case of neglect we have ever seen." She added that despite nearly being starved to death, Phoenix still loves and trusts humans, displaying a beautiful temperament.

Critical Care and Ongoing Investigation

Phoenix, whose name symbolizes rising from the ashes of his ordeal, remains in critical care. He is being fed around ten tablespoons of food throughout the day and night, though his prognosis is uncertain. Authorities are actively searching for the heartless owners responsible for abandoning him in such a desperate state.

Ms Griffin urged the public to reflect on the plight of dogs without caring homes, especially during the Bank Holiday weekend when many families are out walking their pets. She called for anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the need to hold those accountable.
