UK Braces for Frost and Snow as Temperatures Set to Plummet by 7C
UK Frost and Snow Forecast as Temperatures Drop 7C

The UK is set for a sharp temperature drop this month, with forecasters warning that frost is likely and snow could fall in some regions.

Chilly Change on the Horizon

Forecasters indicate that it will start to feel significantly colder as November progresses. The Met Office has highlighted that frost is likely across parts of the UK on Tuesday, November 11. This wintry shift could also bring 'hill snow' later in the month.

According to weather maps service WXCharts, snow is forecast for Northern Ireland, Scotland, and northern England from November 15. This suggests that northern England might see flurries as soon as next weekend.

Significant Temperature Drop Expected

In a notable shift, temperatures in parts of the Midlands are predicted to fall by a substantial 7C. This chill will mark a definitive end to the milder autumn weather, with darker nights and wintery conditions drawing in.

The Met Office's long-range forecast for the period of November 11 to November 20 suggests a largely unsettled and mostly mild start, with rain focused on western and southern parts. However, it notes that where skies are clear and winds are light overnight, frost and fog are likely, with the fog being slow to clear.

Long-Term Outlook: Colder and Drier

From around the middle of the month, a transition towards generally drier weather is expected across the UK. With this change, it is likely to turn a little cooler overall, bringing a greater risk of overnight frost.

Looking further ahead from November 21 to December 5, the forecast indicates a greater chance of high pressure. This would bring more dry weather but also increases the chances of overnight fog and frost. While spells of rain and stronger winds are still possible, especially in the west, hill snow is also a possibility, mainly in the north.

Residents across the UK are advised to prepare for the colder conditions, which look set to define the rest of November.
