Birmingham Doctor Charged with 45 Sexual Assault Offences

A former Birmingham doctor is set to appear in court next month to face a total of 45 charges relating to alleged sexual assaults against patients at two NHS hospitals in the Midlands.

Details of the Charges and Investigation

Nathaniel John Spencer, a 38-year-old from Quinton, Birmingham, will appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 20 January 2026. The charges follow a complex investigation by Staffordshire Police's Public Protection Unit.

The charges against Spencer include:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration

The alleged offences are reported to have occurred at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.

Employment History and Suspension

Spencer worked as a resident doctor, formerly known as a junior doctor, at the University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) NHS Trust between August 2017 and August 2020.

He was then employed on a placement as a resident doctor at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust from August 2020 to April 2021.

Spencer has been suspended from medical practice in the UK pending the outcome of the criminal investigation and court process.
