Gemma Collins Opens Up About Weight Loss After Discontinuing Diet Injections
Reality television icon Gemma Collins, widely known as The GC, has candidly discussed her recent weight loss following her participation in I'm a Celebrity... South Africa. The star, who returned to the jungle for the all-stars spin-off series, revealed she lost more than a stone despite having to stop using weight loss injections for health reasons.
Health Concerns Lead to Injection Discontinuation
In an interview with OK! magazine, Collins disclosed that she briefly used Mounjaro injections ahead of the show but was forced to cease due to a gallbladder attack. "When they weighed me I'd lost 1st 4lb (8kg)," she shared, expressing surprise at the outcome. This revelation comes after she publicly discussed starting the weight loss jabs in early 2025, having been open about her struggles with weight throughout her career.
Unexpected Weight Loss in the South African Desert
Despite discontinuing the injections, Collins experienced significant weight reduction during her time on the show. The structured environment of I'm a Celebrity, with its rationed meals and unpredictable food access through Bushtucker Trials, commonly leads to weight loss among contestants. Collins noted that the experience also served as a beneficial "digital detox," helping her reduce phone usage post-filming.
A Redemption Story Unfolds
This appearance marks a comeback for Collins, who famously quit the jungle after just 72 hours in 2014. Fellow contestant Craig Charles praised her commitment this time, stating, "Gemma really turns up this time and puts a shift in and doesn't wimp out or vote herself out." Collins herself described the South Africa edition as her "redemption story," emphasizing her determination to prove herself after the previous short-lived stint.
The star's journey highlights the complexities of weight management and the unpredictable nature of health interventions, resonating with fans who have followed her career through various television appearances and public challenges.
