Householders in Solihull are being alerted to the annual adjustments to bin collection schedules over the upcoming Christmas and New Year period. The changes are necessary to accommodate the public holidays and the increased volume of festive waste, including wrapping paper, cards, and food packaging.
Revised Collection Dates for Bank Holidays
The council has confirmed that there will be no bin collections on the bank holidays of Thursday 25 December, Friday 26 December, and Thursday 1 January 2026. Residents whose collections normally fall on these Thursdays and Friday will be affected and must await a revised date.
Collections scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will proceed as normal throughout the holiday period. However, the council warns that crews may be working at different times due to the heavier workload.
How to Check Your New Collection Day
To find your specific revised collection date, Solihull Council advises residents to use the online calendar at digital.solihull.gov.uk/BinCollectionCalendar and enter their postcode. This is the most reliable way to get accurate, street-level information.
The authority also reminds residents to ensure all recycling and rubbish is placed at the kerbside by 6am on the day of collection. A missed collection should only be reported after 4pm on the scheduled day.
Handling Extra Festive Recycling and Waste
In good news for those generating more recyclable material, the council states there is no limit to the amount of recycling it will collect over Christmas. Any additional recycling that does not fit in the standard boxes should be placed in acceptable alternatives, which include:
- An old black recycling box.
- A hessian or jute sack.
- A clear plastic bag or carrier bag.
Residents should note that the garden waste collection service will be suspended during the festive break. The final collection for garden waste in 2025 will take place on Friday 19 December. The service is set to resume on Monday 19 January 2026.
By planning ahead and checking their revised dates, Solihull residents can ensure a smooth waste disposal service during the busy holiday season and help the council manage the significant increase in material efficiently.
