Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer was visibly moved to tears during a heartfelt television appearance as she remembered her late former partner, Dave Myers.
An Emotional Tribute on It Takes Two
The poignant moment occurred on the BBC spin-off show It Takes Two, where Karen, currently paired with Gladiators star Nitro, was reflecting on her long tenure with the programme. Having joined the show in 2011, she is now the longest-serving professional dancer following Anton du Beke's move to the judging panel.
As she looked back on her past celebrity partners, the conversation turned to Dave Myers of the Hairy Bikers, with whom she danced in 2013 during her second year on Strictly.
Unlocking Joy and Laughter
Karen shared a touching memory of their time together, explaining how Dave fundamentally changed her approach to the show. "Dave Myers was the first celebrity that I danced with that showed me how to be happy," she revealed.
She fondly recalled their salsa routine, for which Dave conceived the hilarious idea of being pushed in a trolley. "I had a head full of fruit and he had maracas and ruffles," Karen said. "We were laughing with each other and we wanted everyone to join us in that."
She credited Dave with helping her find her place on the popular series, stating he "unlocked that key" for her and taught her how to have fun and make fun of herself, a lesson she has carried with her ever since.
A Lasting Legacy and a Heartfelt Goodbye
Fighting back tears, the professional dancer concluded her tribute with a simple, emotional admission: "He took care of me and I just miss him. Sorry."
Dave Myers sadly passed away in February 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. His Hairy Bikers co-star and close friend, Si King, shared a powerful tribute on social media at the time, writing: "My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can't follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime."
He also thanked the public for their messages of support, noting that it "meant the world" to Dave, his family, and the entire Hairy Bikers team.
