Midlands Farm Plans Shipping Container Storage to Boost Revenue
Farm's shipping container storage plan for revenue

A farm in the Midlands is looking to significantly boost its income by launching a new shipping container storage facility on its land.

Farm Diversification Drive

Rimmers Farm in Wichenford has submitted a planning application to Malvern Hills District Council, seeking permission to site a dozen shipping containers on its property. This initiative forms part of the farm's broader strategy to diversify its revenue streams after livestock operations ceased several years ago.

While crop cultivation continues on the land, the agricultural enterprise is actively pursuing additional income sources. The farm has already begun adapting its assets, with a dwelling on the property now being used for holiday lettings.

Meeting Local Storage Demand

The proposed containers would be leased out to individuals for private storage purposes on a short-term basis. Plans submitted to the council indicate that tenants would make monthly payments for storing a wide variety of personal items.

Farm bosses believe that the expansion of Worcester and surrounding towns will create substantial demand for such storage solutions. The planning documents state: "Storage facilities such as this are popular and well sought after, as the nearby city of Worcester and other towns expand the need for such facilities will only increase."

Future Prospects

If Malvern Hills District Council grants approval, the project would represent a significant step in the farm's transition towards a more diversified business model. The move from traditional farming to incorporating commercial storage facilities reflects a growing trend among agricultural businesses seeking financial stability.

The application demonstrates how rural enterprises are adapting to changing economic landscapes by utilising their land assets in innovative ways to generate sustainable revenue for the future.
