Free 'Learn to Ride' Cycling Sessions Launch Across Bassetlaw This Spring

Young cyclists in Bassetlaw are set to enjoy an active and engaging spring season with the introduction of complimentary 'Learn to Ride' sessions. These events will be held in Harworth, Worksop, and Langold throughout the upcoming school holidays, supported by the renowned Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy.

Session Details and Locations

The initiative, part of the Move More in May campaign, will feature two daily sessions at each venue. The schedule is as follows:

  • Harworth, Tom Simpson Recreation Ground: Wednesday, April 1
  • Worksop, The Canch: Wednesday, April 8
  • Langold, Harrison Drive: Wednesday, May 27

Each location will host sessions from 9am to 10.30am and 10.30am to noon, providing ample opportunities for participation.

Program Focus and Benefits

Designed for children under 16, the sessions cater to both beginners who cannot ride independently and those seeking to enhance their skills and confidence. The program emphasizes a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment, allowing participants to develop essential cycling abilities at their own pace.

Ali Slater, a coach at Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy, highlighted the importance of cycling: "Learning to ride is a vital life skill. It boosts confidence, improves coordination, supports physical and mental wellbeing, and encourages children to be more active. By working in partnership with Bassetlaw District Council, we’re delighted to help more young people across the district gain confidence on two wheels and develop a lifelong love of cycling."

Community and Council Support

Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: "We’re really pleased to be working alongside Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy to bring these fantastic cycling sessions to Harworth, Langold, and Worksop. Helping children and young people to stay active is incredibly important, and cycling is a skill that builds confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of being outdoors. These events are a great opportunity for families to get involved, have fun, and learn something valuable at the same time."
