Armstrong Hails Edwards' Impact at Wolves Ahead of Promotion Push

Adam Armstrong has hailed ‘unbelievable’ Rob Edwards for his approach at instilling confidence in the striker and Wolves. The 29-year-old arrived at the club at the end of the winter transfer window and is set to have a key role next season as Wolves launch a Championship promotion bid.

Armstrong on Working with Edwards

“It’s been incredible,” Armstrong said on working with Edwards. “I’ve played against his teams before, Luton and Boro, always well-organised teams and tough to beat. I worked with the assistant manager at Southampton, so I knew what I was coming into. He’s been spot on, just tells you how it is and gives you that confidence to go on the pitch on the weekend and do it. I’ve got nothing but unbelievable words to say.”

Preferred Position and Role

Armstrong has occasionally featured out wide for Wolves but has largely been used as a striker in a front two or, more recently, as a lone number nine. The experienced attacker sees himself as a striker for Wolves long-term, as he hopes to fire the club back to the top flight.

“I’ve always been a striker,” he added. “I had a few spells out wide when I was at Southampton and scored quite a lot of goals from that position. I’m quite versatile across the three, but if you’re asking me personally, I think number nine is probably my best position and gets me in the best areas on the pitch. I think that’s where I play my best football.”

Defensive and Creative Duties

Armstrong also highlighted the responsibilities of a striker. “I always got told when I was younger to work from the front and defend from the front first and it always sets off from the striker for your team to go and press. On the other hand, when we’ve got the ball, it’s about trying to get on the ball, trying to create. Some games you’ll be told not to do that because you want to create space for others, so it’s all just positional stuff. It’s the role that I’m enjoying and the gaffer’s put a lot of faith in me so I have to keep repaying him on the pitch.”
