Unai Emery has confirmed a significantly changed Aston Villa starting line-up for tonight's Europa League fixture against Swiss side BSC Young Boys.
Major Squad Rotation
The Villa manager has made seven alterations to the side that secured a 2-1 victory against Leeds United in the Premier League last weekend. This strategic rotation highlights the depth of the squad and the importance of managing player fitness across competitions.
In goal, World Cup winner Emi Martinez retains his place. The defensive line sees a reshuffle, featuring Victor Lindelof, Lamare Bogarde, Pau Torres, and Ian Maatsen.
Midfield and Attack Reshuffle
The engine room will be commanded by the duo of Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana, forming a strong double pivot in central midfield. Further forward, Morgan Rogers has been handed the number 10 role, with support from wingers Jadon Sancho and Evann Guessand.
Leading the line as the central striker is Donyell Malen, while first-team regular Ollie Watkins begins the match from the substitutes' bench, offering a potent attacking option if needed.
Villa's European Campaign
Aston Villa have enjoyed a strong start to their Europa League group stage, having won three of their first four matches. Their victories have come against Bologna, Feyenoord, and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Their campaign, however, experienced a setback with a surprise defeat to Go Ahead Eagles, a match in which they had taken an early lead through tonight's starter, Evann Guessand.
Aston Villa starting XI vs Young Boys: Martinez, Lindelof, Bogarde, Torres, Maatsen, Tielemans, Onana, Guessand, Rogers, Sancho, Malen.
Substitutes: Bizot, Oakley, Cash, Konsa, Barkley, McGinn, Garcia, Kamara, Digne, Elliott, Buendia, Watkins.
