Birmingham City are set to reshape their squad this summer as they aim to improve on a mid-table Championship finish. According to Spanish reports, the club is expected to trigger the purchase option for midfielder Jhon Solis, making his loan move permanent.
Sport reports that Solis returning to Girona after his loan spell at St Andrew's is 'unlikely', with Blues eager to finalise a deal. The transfer is expected to cost around £6.9 million, though earlier claims from Colombia suggested the price was a sticking point. However, Girona's relegation from La Liga to Spain's second tier has made a deal more likely.
Sport states: 'Solis will indeed remain at the club that requested his loan in January: Birmingham City.' The report adds that barring surprises, the Championship side will exercise their purchase option after Solis's impressive second half of the season, where he started most matches and imposed his physicality in midfield.
Solis's Impact at Birmingham
Solis joined Blues on loan from Girona in January and made 17 appearances, scoring one goal. His performances earned praise from manager Chris Davies, who highlighted his physical condition, ability to win duels, and speed. Davies previously expressed his desire to make the move permanent, noting that Girona, owned by the City Football Group, is a willing seller.
Davies said: 'I know we're in touch with City (Football Group) who own him. They've visited and I've spoken about his progress. We have a good relationship. The player loves it here, and we would love for him to be part of it. He's enthusiastic, but we'll see how it unfolds after the season.'
What If the Deal Falls Through?
If the permanent move does not happen, Solis could be a valuable asset for Girona in La Liga Hypermotion. However, given his success in England, that scenario now seems unlikely.
