Hürzeler Eases Rutter Injury Fears as Brighton Face Villa With Four Doubts
Brighton's Rutter Injury Scare Ahead of Villa Clash

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler has moved to allay concerns over forward Georginio Rutter ahead of his side's crucial midweek Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.

Rutter Substitution Sparks Concern

The French attacker was substituted just ten minutes into the second half of Brighton's 2-0 victory away at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. His early departure and visible reaction prompted immediate questions about a potential injury, specifically a head knock.

Hürzeler was quick to clarify the situation in his post-match comments. He explained that the decision was primarily a precautionary medical measure taken to protect the player's welfare. The manager's subsequent observations provided significant reassurance for Seagulls fans.

"At first, of course, it's a medical decision, we took care of the health of the player," Hürzeler stated. "But after the game it seems to be everything good. He was standing, he was celebrating in front of the fans therefore I don't see a head injury."

Confirmed and Doubtful Absences for Villa Visit

While Rutter's availability appears more positive, Brighton will definitely be without key personnel for the visit of Unai Emery's high-flying Villa. Defender Adam Webster and winger Solly March are both ruled out due to knee injuries.

The match may also come too soon for the returns of two other important figures. Winger Kaoru Mitoma, sidelined for two months with an ankle problem, and experienced midfielder James Milner, a former Villa player, are both described as "close" to a return. However, Hürzeler suggested a comeback in Sunday's subsequent game against West Ham United is more probable for the pair.

Rutter, who joined from Leeds United in August 2024, is still seeking his first Premier League goal of this campaign after 12 appearances.

Villa's Form and Absence

Aston Villa arrive at the Amex Stadium in formidable form, having won 11 of their last 13 matches across all competitions. Their latest result was a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Villa will, however, be without their own defensive stalwart, centre-back Tyrone Mings, for the trip to the south coast. Brighton, meanwhile, will be confident after securing three victories in their last four Premier League outings, building momentum ahead of a challenging fixture.

The stage is set for a compelling encounter between two sides with European ambitions, with team selection and fitness playing a pivotal role in the potential outcome.
