Chris Davies on Marvin Ducksch's form as Birmingham City lose
Davies admits Ducksch struggled for Birmingham City

Davies Reflects on Ducksch's Riverside Display

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has conceded that the trip to Middlesbrough may have come too soon for striker Marvin Ducksch, after the German forward failed to make a significant impact away from home.

Ducksch, now back to full fitness, had been instrumental in Birmingham City's back-to-back victories over Portsmouth and Millwall at St Andrew's. For the first time this season, Davies opted for consistency, naming the same starting XI for the third consecutive match, which included Ducksch leading the line at the Riverside Stadium.

Struggles on the Road for Blues Striker

However, the striker was unable to replicate his influential home form. The match proved to be a challenge for Ducksch, who was substituted before the hour mark, making way for Kyogo Furuhashi.

Analysing the performance, Davies provided context for his player's quiet afternoon. "He had moments around the ball and everything else," Davies said. "They changed their shape quite early to a back five when they got the injury. We couldn't quite find him and link with him enough. He was OK, it wasn't for the want of trying and it was his third game in a week."

The manager defended his team selection, stating his belief that the players were fresh enough to continue their run, and emphasised the positive week Ducksch has had in returning to fitness.

Looking Ahead to the Norwich Clash

The result provides a clear point for reflection as Birmingham City now enter a two-week break from Championship action. Their next challenge will be a home fixture against Norwich City on November 22, giving the squad time to recover and prepare.

Despite the setback against Middlesbrough, Davies remains positive about Ducksch's value to the team, concluding, "I would say he's had a really good week because he's got back fit, keep him fit and we've got a very good player."
