The season has been nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster for Albion fans. And it will have been just as worrying and nail-biting for owner Shilen Patel, whose second full season in charge of the club has been a nightmare.
From Ryan Mason to the Eric Ramsay debacle, it has not gone the way he would have hoped. He has come in for flack from fans at times; however, he made a shrewd move in giving James Morrison the job on an interim basis.
A ten-game unbeaten run has steered Albion to survival, but not after the Baggies were docked two points on Friday for a controversial PSR breach. Patel has been a regular at recent games, more than he usually would be, although he has been at The Hawthorns for a host of games since he took charge of the club.
He was again in attendance against Ipswich, as Albion needed a point to make their two-point deduction irrelevant. It was a nervous day in the stands and in the directors' box, and two pictures from the game capture it perfectly.
Ipswich thought they had won it on 70 minutes when former Baggie Cedric Kipre turned home from close range. The goal saw jubilant reactions from the Ipswich directors, as Patel and Mark Miles, who returned to the club earlier this year, watched on. But that soon turned to relief as they were pictured in the box after the game clapping the Albion players.
