Talk surrounding an exit for Birmingham City forward Marvin Ducksch has intensified ahead of the team's return to pre-season training. Blues' first team are due back at the Elite Performance and Innovation Centre at the end of the month to begin pre-season under manager Chris Davies and Ducksch's future is still up in the air.
Ducksch's First Season in English Football
The German netted 11 goals in his first season in English football after making the switch from Werder Bremen last summer. However, he ended the season on the bench after being charged for drink-driving. The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge at court in May. Davies preferred the pairing of Jay Stansfield and August Priske in the closing weeks of the season.
Return to Germany on the Cards
Speculation has been rife in Ducksch's homeland that a return to Germany is on the cards this summer. BILD has again put Hertha Berlin in the frame for his signature. Hertha finished seventh in Bundesliga II last season and they will have money to spend this summer after the €9 million sale of 16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn to Bayer Leverkusen and the impending departure of €8m-rated captain Fabian Reese.
BILD, via Sport Witness, says Hertha plan to use the funds from Reese's sale to acquire a new striker and Ducksch is under consideration. Ducksch was prolific in the German second tier for Werder Bremen and Hannover 96 before making a name for himself in the Bundesliga with the former.
