The Glapton Academy, part of the LEAD Academy Trust in Nottingham, is celebrating an outstanding achievement after one of its pupils, eight-year-old Sonny, signed an academy contract with Nottingham Forest Football Club. The Year 3 student, who plays as a midfielder, has secured a place in the club's academy setup, where he will train twice a week and compete in regular fixtures.
Early Beginnings and Football Journey
Sonny's passion for football emerged at a very young age, showing natural talent and enthusiasm from the age of two. He began his football career at Gedling Tornadoes, often playing above his age group, before being scouted by Derby County and later Nottingham Forest. During his development, he also attracted interest from clubs such as Aston Villa and Leicester City.
Alongside his academy commitments, Sonny continued to play grassroots football for Clifton All Whites, consistently competing above his age level. He eventually made the decision to focus entirely on Nottingham Forest as the next step in his development.
School and Club Support
The Glapton Academy has worked closely with Sonny and his family to balance his training schedule with his education, ensuring he keeps up with his studies while pursuing his football ambitions.
