Unai Emery has made his stance clear regarding his future at Aston Villa, shutting down speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid. The Villa manager responded with a firm "zero" when asked if there was any chance he could leave for the Spanish capital this summer.
Emery's Response to Speculation
In an interview with Eidesmarque, Emery was pressed on whether he would consider a move to Real Madrid following their presidential election. Jose Mourinho is set to return to the Bernabeu after Florentino Perez secured 65% of the vote, extending his tenure until 2030. Emery was reportedly considered by Perez during his search for a new head coach after a disappointing season for Madrid, which saw them finish second in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona, and fail to win a trophy.
Emery replied: "Zero," before adding: "I'm only thinking about where I'm wanted, and I'm wanted at Aston Villa." He continued: "I've already said it in the team talk there, that the first thing you have to do is feel grateful where you're wanted and, above all, do a lot to make sure you're wanted where you are, which is where you're known."
Emery's Achievements at Villa
The Villa manager won his fifth Europa League title last month with a 3-0 victory over Freiburg in Istanbul, while his team finished fourth in the Premier League - the second time they have achieved that in three seasons. Emery's stock has never been higher, but he remains fully focused on his role at Villa Park.
Following Villa's qualification for the Champions League in May 2024, Emery signed a new five-year contract, tying him to the club until 2029. Next season will be his fourth full campaign at Villa, having transformed a relegation-threatened side into one that qualified for Europe on the final day of the 2022/23 season.
Emery's commitment to Aston Villa is clear, and he continues to build on the success he has achieved since taking over. The club's fans can rest assured that their manager is fully dedicated to the project at hand, with no intention of leaving for another position.
